Assalamualaikum
Today is about going from zero to one
From Chaos to Calm
Because when there’s no structure
caregiving feels like firefighting:
- Missed meds
- Skipped meals
- Confusion, falls, mood swings
- And you, exhausted by 10am
But when there’s a rhythm — everyone feels safer.
Let’s walk through 3 simple steps to go from chaos to calm.
Step 1: Create a Daily Schedule
No schedule = chaos.
And chaos leads to preventable health problems: dehydration, constipation, agitation.
Here’s a sample to start with:
5-7am – Subuh, Quran, Zikir, Shower
8am – Breakfast + morning meds
9am – Light movement (walk or sit by window)
10am – Activity (colouring, Quran listening, puzzles)
12pm – Lunch
4pm – Fresh air or light stretching
5.30pm – Dinner -
8pm – Prepare for bed
Print it. Laminate it. Stick it up.
Adjust based on
their rhythm
, not yours.
This gives them predictability. And gives you peace.
Or follow suggested picture below by Sister Azura.
Steal this. Daily routine and hydration schedule.
Step 2: Elderly-Proof Your Home
One fall can undo everything.
Go room by room, like a nurse doing a safety audit:
Slippery tiles?
Use anti-slip mats.
Dark rooms?
Open curtains.
Wires near beds?
Clear them.
Soaps too slippery?
Switch to rinse-free cleansers.
Is their room always hot?
Ventilate or add a fan.
Tip: Natural light helps reduce confusion in dementia patients. Open the windows every morning — let their senses wake up gently.
Step 3: Add Gentle Movement (Even if They’re Bedbound)
Muscle loss happens fast.
Two weeks in bed can lock hips and stiffen legs.
Whether they can walk or not, keep their body active:
For bedbound parents:
- Bend and straighten knees (10x each)
- Rotate ankles in circles
- Stretch arms slowly above head
For mobile parents:
- 10-minute morning walk
- Sit by plants, hold onto railings, move with help
A little movement goes a long way — even 5 minutes counts.
Reminder: Always check their energy level first.
One structure. One space. One stretch.
That’s all it takes to turn a hard day into a manageable one.
Tomorrow, we’ll talk about 3 small upgrades that make this easier (for them and you).
Until then, stay gentle. Stay grounded.
Wassalam,
Shahib & Azura
